2 day Sahara Tour from Fes - "Nomad for a Night"

Your 2 day Sahara Tour from Fes, "Nomad for a Night" begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel/riad in Fes. Travelling through the Middle Atlas Mountains towards the Sahara Desert, you’ll see some beautiful scenery as the landscape changes.

Our first stop will be in Ifrane, a popular ski resort town known as the "Switzerland of Morocco", with its steeply-peaked rooves designed to shed show easily.

Next, we’ll stop for lunch in Midelt, the “apple capital” of Morocco.

After lunch, we’ll drive alongside the Ziz Valley. The impressive palm-filled Ziz Oasis stretches for hundreds of meandering kilometres along the valley floor. You’ll have a chance to take some beautiful panoramic photos at a lookout point beside the road.

Later in the afternoon, we’ll pass through Erfoud, famous for its Date Festival each October and known for its fossils and fossil products. Eventually we’ll turn off the highway and travel across flat rocky desert to the Saharan region of Merzouga and the magnificent sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Erg Chebbi has the highest dunes in North Africa, and the sight of them rising suddenly out of the desert floor never fails to impress!

By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at the desert hotel, where your camels will be waiting. You’ll leave civilization behind and camel-trek into the high dunes, where you’ll see the sands change colour as the sun moves across the sky. You’ll have time to explore, take pictures, and watch the sunset before camel-trekking to the tent camp among the smaller dunes.

After your camel-trek, you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal, followed by live African music – drumming and singing and dancing – around a campfire. You’ll spend the night in the desert surrounded by nothing but sand and sky.

After breakfast on Day 2 of your overnight desert tour from Fes, we’ll leave the dunes behind and start heading back to Fes. Once again, you’ll see the amazing change in scenery as we head into the Middle Atlas Mountains, crossing over the Tizi-n-Talghamt pass.

We’ll have lunch en route. Later, we’ll stop for a rest in Azrou to see Barbary apes in the cedar forests in the mountains.

We’ll arrive in Fes in the evening and drop you off at your hotel/riad, bringing your 2 day Sahara Tour from Fes, "Nomad for a Night" to a close.
